QMBL Swimming Club at the London League Gala

On Saturday 19th October 2019, Queen Mary Barts London (QMBL) Swimming Team took on our first competition of the season, this being the London League Gala. There was a lot resting on our shoulders as we were hosting on home-ground at Mile End Leisure Centre. It is a friendly competition which takes place over three events during the academic year. QMBL Swim challenge several other teams from across London including, University College London, Kings College London, Imperial, Brunel, Royal Holloway, London School of Economics and London Universities Swimming Team. With a total of eight teams with highly talented swimmers there was no way that we were going down without a fight! We competed in a range of events including 25, 50 and 100 meter races and relays. A huge shoutout must go to the Freshers who came along to support and compete, and another must go to our Study Abroad Students. Both have settled amazingly into our team, and they already feel a part of our family. They have truly made a ‘splash’! The support on poolside was amazing; the atmosphere was electrifying!

After a successful gala, we ventured to Spoons for a celebratory meal and drink. When the times and scores were calculated the next day, we found out that we were in 5th place, with only 3 points between us and 4th place! This puts us in a great position for the rest of the year.

Overall, it was a fabulous evening, and thoroughly enjoyable for everyone that attended. We can’t wait for the next one! We would love for more people to come along and support us at our events.
