Although this one was labeled the third vs fourth team match, it was still all to play for at Chislehurst as the 3s were looking to cement their status as the 3rd best QMUFC team whilst the 4s were out to prove a point.
The 4s went into this fixture as underdogs but they showed passion, desire and clinical precision in front of goal as they out 3-0 winners! Brilliant performances by goalkeeper Ali Basma and striker Tobias Scott helped the 4s upset the odds, with a brace from the physical striker and a penalty from left-back Dom Kara settling the contest.
The first notable action came from the 4s; Tobias intercepted the ball from the ‘keeper 40-yards from goal and tried an audacious chip, which was goal bound, but Jacob headed it off the line for the 3s.
That early pressure had passed and moments later the 3s should have been ahead. A lovely corner was floated in and reached Dan Smith at the back post but he headed agonizingly wide from 4-yards out.
They were to regret that miss as Dom Kara’s penalty put the 4s into the lead on the 30th minute. Being tripped inside-the-box after turning on a sixpence, Kara dusted himself down to take the spot kick and duly slotted past the goalie with ease. Kara had given the goalie the eyes, sending him the wrong way!
The 3s came back almost immediately. A dangerous set-piece, just outside the area in a central position, was sweetly struck and took a nasty deflection but ‘keeper Ali expertly adjusted his feet to tip the effort over the bar.
During the half-time interval, the third-team spoke about energy and desire in a bid to turn around their fortunes. Yet within 5 minutes of the restart they were 2 nil down. A short back pass by a defender allowed Tobias to chip the goalie again, this time though his strike went in!
Tobias was at the heart of everything the 4s were doing in the second-half. First he set up team-mate Lorenzo who had a shot palmed round the post and go out for a corner. Then, on the 75th minute, the commanding forward got his second goal. A long ball played down the line was pounced upon by the striker who, after cutting inside, slotted home in composed fashion. 3-0 to the 4s!
Tobias shortly after rounded the goalkeeper but a last ditch table by Dan Smith prevented him from getting a shot away, stopping him from completing his hat-trick.
Jerald for the 3s had two very late chances come his way. First he fired against the post after the ball diverted his way on the 88th minute and in the 90th, he quite literally slammed home a chance- which was correctly ruled out for a deliberate handball.
The 4s came into the match wanting to defy the odds and the status they had been given, playing against a supposedly better side in the form of the 3s. 3 goals later and a clean sheet to add, the 4s will be asking questions about their tag as the fourth best QMUFC side.
Man-of-the-match: Tobias Scott
Ali Basma in goal was a resilient figure, keeping out numerous goal bound attempts however the accolade for this match must go to Tobias. He could and should have had a hat-trick and his ability to calmly hold up play, relieving pressure was utilised on many occasions. His two goals effectively settled the contest and earned his side a well-deserved victory.
