Meet Naiha Masih – VP Welfare candidate

Why are you running?

I got an email from the SU saying that someone nominated me for the role! They also said that this person thought I was hardworking and a great public speaker which was very encouraging. When I began to think about what I’d do if were in the role, I got really excited about the possibility of bringing about the changes and ideas which I’d come up with and also realized that, as a person, I’ve got the right characteristics and skills to do a job like this really well. Hence I’ve thrown my hat in the ring!

How would you describe your leadership style?

Democratic. I love working with people as part of team. People that know (and even people that don’t know me too well) would say that I’m approachable, warm, good at listening, but also that I’m organized and motivated, good at getting things done. So my leadership style is very relational, I’d be very present and engaged with students and the other people I’m working with.

What do you see as the biggest challenges currently facing the Students’ Union or Queen Mary more broadly?

One of the biggest things I’ve noticed, especially since campaigning, is that communication and just getting information out to students is a massive challenge. So many people I’ve spoken to didn’t even know that elections were happening. I don’t think it just applies to the elections, for example there are so many different support services available for students they just don’t necessarily know that they’re there or how to access them. So getting information out to students and better communication would be one of my top priorities.

If you could invite 5 people, dead or alive to a dinner party, who would you invite?

Jesus – Got so many questions and I think everyone else would too!

Barack Obama- Again, so many questions! He’s also funny, charming, and a massive legend

Michelle Obama – She’s such a remarkable woman, think you’d learn so much just from having dinner with her

Oprah – So inspirational, I love her, and she’d be fun at dinner

Miranda Hart – For the laughs
