“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Global Health Society is a collection of enthusiastic students who want to get involved in learning about and making a difference to Global Health.
From Ebola and Zika to inequality and climate change, Global Health includes transnational health issues, determinants and solutions; it involves many disciplines within and beyond politics, anthropology and health sciences. This is why we welcome students from all disciplines, who are interested in finding out more!
The events we put on are extremely broad and include:
– Watching eye-opening and interesting films to understand the problems and injustice in global health, followed by a discussion.
– Getting to know each other, sharing opinions and socialising over a drink or a meal.
– Getting involved in campaigns and fundraising for global health issues.
– Going to the numerous global health events that London has to offer.
For example, we kicked off this academic year with an amazing meet-and-greet and had a rooftop bar social with our friends from KCL Global Health Society. We also enjoyed the famous documentary Before The Flood, attended various conferences and events all over London, and more.
Our ambitious plan is to put on a series of lectures, fundraising and campaigning events in the future, and we always welcome new people to join our friendly society!
We aim to keep our members up-to-date with any interesting events and conferences happening in London related to Global Health through our Facebook page, and we also have a Twitter to gather and discuss interesting news and new research.
We believe that it is extremely important to make voices heard in global health and to educate people on the health inequalities that exist, because that is one of the most important ways to inspire change.
If you are interested in global health on any level, then we look forward to hearing from you! To get involved, head to Students’ Hub, or the Queen Mary Students’ Union website, to purchase your membership.
