Go back in time with the QM Re-enactment Society

Fancy time-traveling to 11th Century Britain?

Hi there! We’re QMRS (Queen Mary Re-enactment Society) and we are a medieval re-enactment group centred primarily around Norman Britain.

The society is a spin-off group of Historia Normannis, one of the UK’s most prolific medieval re-enactment groups. We train with the Normannis North London group to practice safe, competitive combat, as well as living history (ranging from dressmaking, leatherwork – all sorts!)

We use real steel weaponry and authentic materials, and in the summer we use our skills to the fullest at huge historical displays, battles, sieges, tournaments, and the like, across the country, often at some of the country’s most famous landmarks and cities, including places such as Dover Castle. One such event that was great fun last year was a trip to Whittington Castle in Shropshire, where over four hundred fellow members of Normannis from across Britain came together for a three-day re-enactment.

We’re a friendly bunch, meeting on Saturdays or Sundays to train, learn new skills, and generally have a laugh while re-enacting some great history and also getting some exercise. We usually meet in Carlton Square Gardens, a five-minute walk from campus (weather permitting!). If you are interested in joining the society, make sure to check out our Facebook page, QMRS Normannis, and our page on the Student Union website, and feel free to message us if you have any questions about joining or the activities of the society. We look forward to seeing you soon!
