Do you have what it takes to be Queen Mary’s freshest talent?
Calling one, calling all! Yes, even you in the back. We see you!
Walking around Queen Mary we are all quite aware of the different characters who fill our lecture halls and seminar rooms. What we want to know, however, is what lies beneath the surface. Ever wondered what secret talents your classmates have, or have a talent yourself that you would love to perform? Consider this event your moment to shine.
From musical acts, stand-up comedy, poetry slam, group performances to funky dances! We aim to bring together people from different Schools, students and lecturers alike, as a way to encourage communication and interaction between the disciplines—all in the name of FUN. However if the word fun in itself does not seem appealing, the first place prize is £100 CASH followed by £50 CASH for the runner up.
Now for a little more about your hosts —Material Science & Engineering is an academic society which promotes and supports the development of current students as well as those who are interested in the subject. For those who are a little unsure as to what “Material Science” entails, fear not. It’s predominantly the application of concepts from physics, chemistry as well as engineering disciplines to improve the quality of life by increasing the efficiency of the products we use.
We run events which encompass the academic as well as social elements of university life. Our aim this year has specifically been to encourage engineers to think more about their creative and entrepreneurial sides. Highlights this year have included talks by industry leaders at Instron who gave students an insight into graduate schemes at the company. In addition, we have also given away tickets to TEDxEastEnd and hosted several fundraising events: from our ‘Curry&Rice’ on those gloomy Monday afternoons in library square to the Christmas social at Kitchen Pizzeria. It is safe to say we are not your average academic society.
The talent show is also being hosted by Engineers without Borders (EWB) whose aim is to work on projects both in the UK as well as internationally. These projects aim to change the way students and future engineers contribute to real world applications.
