What’s hot and what’s not judged by last year’s Best New Society
This year started with our first welcome social where we presented our society to our 50 new members and giving them the chance to meet each and every one through speed meeting. This was a success as our new members instantly clicked and shared their ideas for the society. Members of the committee also introduced themselves and highlighted the timeline of exciting socials and skills session to come. After the meeting, we went for pizza and mulled over the group’s ideas together. We also announced the winner of our design contest who went home with a Topshop voucher and free membership to the society.
The next event was a drinks social, which was then followed by a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Our group of photographers applied their new photographic and perspective skills to create a beautiful album which can be found on our very own Facebook page (facebook.com/groups/QMSUfashion).
December saw our photographers, stylists, models and bloggers (fresh from skills sessions!) practice and collaborate to create some stylish content for the society. We were helped by Somewhereto, a non-profit venue provider, who offered us two hours in one of their new Holland Park locations. The blogging team is now working on a collaboration with the CUB magazine and the styling team has since then promoted two on-campus vintage fairs in collaboration with University Vintage Fairs.
Our plans for the next semester include a shopping trip (which will include a stop at the delightful Selfridges on Oxford Street), a fashion related movie night in collaboration with the Green Society and 2017/18 committee election night.
During the year, the society also gained four new ambassadors, who promote the society and cement its on-campus brand. We also welcomed a new communications representative who will be in-charge in ensuring that both our on and off-campus events run smoothly. Social media has been a growing brand distribution tool for us – we now have over 650 members following us on Facebook and over 350 on Instagram. This will allow us to promote our future events to an even larger audience.
Fear not, though; we intend to grow greater still.
